A Lake Ridge father is dead after authorities say his son shot and killed him and the family dog.

Officers responded to the 2500 block of Paxton Street around 2:39 a.m. Monday to investigate a shooting, according to a Prince William police news release. A family friend contacted authorities after receiving information a shooting occurred at the home.

“The investigation revealed the accused reportedly shot and killed his father, identified as a 56-year-old man, and the family dog, an approximately 1-year-old Labrador retriever, during an altercation,” the release stated. “The accused and victim reside together at the home.”

The son, 29-year-old Christopher Tyler Rose, was arrested without incident. He has been charged with murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and felony animal cruelty.

His father, 56-year-old Brian Christopher Rose, and the dog were pronounced dead at the scene.

“There were no other occupants inside the residence at the time of the incident,” the release states. “Detectives are actively investigating the incident to determine what led up to the shooting.”
